Windows 10 Extended Security Updates: Enrollment Bug Fix Released

Windows 10 was officially discontinued last month, marking over a decade since its original debut. Despite this, the operating system's widespread usage has led Microsoft to offer Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for another one to three years to many Windows 10 users.

For individual users with Windows 10 PCs, obtaining an additional year of updates is supposed to be straightforward and free. However, initial reports by Windows Latest revealed bugs that impeded the enrollment of some PCs into the ESU program, blocking their access to these free updates. Since each device must be individually registered for the program, any malfunction in the enrollment process could result in missed security updates.

To address these concerns, Microsoft has released an update for Windows 10 22H2, identified as KB5071959. This update acknowledges the issue, specifically a glitch where the enrollment wizard could fail, and provides a fix. The update is available to all Windows 10 PCs, regardless of ESU enrollment, to ensure affected users receive crucial security patches.
