Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene Clash Over Epstein Files Release

A public feud has erupted between Donald Trump and Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene ahead of a crucial vote in the House regarding the release of files connected to Jeffrey Epstein. The clash highlights a significant breakdown between the former president and one of his staunchest supporters.

The House is set to consider the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which aims to mandate the Department of Justice to release all unclassified materials related to Epstein. Speaker Mike Johnson announced that the bill would be put to a vote in the coming week.

Recently, Greene has questioned whether Trump continues to prioritize an 'America First' agenda, criticizing his handling of the Epstein files. This led Trump to take to social media on Friday, labeling Greene 'wacky' and stating that she should be ousted in the next elections. His attacks escalated on Saturday when he called her a 'traitor' in further posts.

The spat occurred after Politico reported that a vote on the Epstein files could take place as soon as Tuesday. Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Greene, accusing her of constant complaining and alleging that her displeasure stems from his lack of support for her potential gubernatorial or senatorial campaigns in Georgia.

'All I see 'Wacky' Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!' Trump posted, suggesting her shift against him began when he discouraged her political aspirations. He promised to back any Republican candidate who challenges her in the upcoming midterm elections, intensifying his criticism by calling her 'Marjorie 'Traitor' Green [sic]' on Saturday.

In contrast, Greene has lambasted Trump for not taking sufficient action to reduce living costs for voters, criticized his foreign policies, and disagreed with his tariff decisions. However, her main grievance focuses on his stance regarding the Epstein files.

Notably, Greene's critique of Trump marks a departure for a lawmaker who has steadfastly supported him through several controversies, including defending him after the Capitol riot in 2021 and when he faced accusations of promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Greene is among just four House Republicans who last week joined Democrats in a discharge petition supporting the release of the Epstein files. On Friday, she asserted on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump was attempting to deter Republicans from voting for the Epstein petition, stating, 'He's coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next week's vote...'

She further shared her sense of being targeted due to Trump's influence, saying, 'It's astonishing really how hard he's fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out.'

On Saturday, Greene revisited the subject on X, commenting that Trump had made her a target of threats 'fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world.' She expressed surprise at Trump's hostility against her, given her strong support of his policies, stating, 'As a Republican, who overwhelmingly votes for President Trump's bills and agenda, his aggression against me... is completely shocking to everyone.'

Greene concluded by clarifying her stance, saying, 'I don't worship or serve Donald Trump,' affirming, 'I worship God, Jesus is my savior, and I serve my district GA14 and the American people.'
