EasyJet Criticized Over Alleged Misrepresentation of £5.99 Cabin Bag Fee

An hour ago, EasyJet faced scrutiny over its advertised cabin baggage fees. Business reporter Emer Moreau covers the recent directive from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) instructing EasyJet to cease claims about carry-on luggage fees starting 'from £5.99'. The airline failed to provide evidence corroborating this price point for passengers wishing to store cabin bags.

The complaint was initiated by consumer group Which? The ASA argued the wording suggested that passengers could consistently secure this rate across numerous flights. Despite objections and clarifications from EasyJet, the ASA maintained that the advertisement was misleading, as the airline did not present evidence of the stated price being available on a significant number of routes.

In response, EasyJet expressed its intention to provide transparent pricing information and stated changes have been made to their website. EasyJet emphasized that their pricing models vary depending on demand and other variables, thus making it challenging to pinpoint a specific, consistent fee for cabin bags. The airline's website now clarifies, 'Fees vary with demand, route, flight date and time of booking. You'll see exact price at time of purchase.'

EasyJet has stated it aims to improve clarity on respective pricing models, ensuring consumers have access to straightforward fares and accurate information. However, the airline highlighted that detailed pricing could not be consistently displayed due to varying factors impacting costs.
