China to Participate in India’s AI Summit Amid Improving Bilateral Relations

BEIJING — China is set to send a delegation to India's forthcoming AI summit, indicating a positive shift in relations between the neighboring nations, as reported by CNBC.

Leading the delegation will be a vice minister from China's Ministry of Science and Technology, according to George Chen, partner and co-chair of digital practice at consultancy The Asia Group, who referred to insights from his government contacts. He noted that the Indian embassy in Beijing had initiated the visa process to facilitate the Chinese delegation's travel.

The Asia Group frequently liaises with Chinese policymakers concerning developments in AI regulations.

This announcement marks the first public confirmation of China’s participation in the New Delhi event, scheduled from February 16 to 20. Previously, Chinese state media, in late December, quoted Indian news sources that New Delhi had officially invited Beijing to the AI Impact Summit.

Requests for comments from representatives of the Indian embassy, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and China's Ministry of Science and Technology had not been immediately answered. The science ministry currently has four vice ministers.

The anticipated attendance, which may also involve Chinese businesses, suggests an improvement in Sino-Indian relationships following a period of strained interactions.
