China to Join India's AI Summit Amid Improving Bilateral Relations

BEIJING—In the latest indication of improving relations between China and India, China has announced plans to send a delegation to India’s upcoming AI summit, scheduled for February 16-20, 2026, in New Delhi. CNBC has confirmed this development through insights shared by George Chen, partner and co-chair of the digital practice at consultancy The Asia Group.

A vice minister from China’s Ministry of Science and Technology will lead the Chinese delegation. Chen highlighted that the Indian embassy in Beijing had already initiated contact to facilitate visa arrangements for the Chinese participants. The Asia Group regularly engages with Chinese officials concerning AI regulatory matters.

This announcement serves as the first public confirmation of China’s intent to attend the AI Impact Summit. In late December, Chinese state media referenced Indian reports indicating India’s official invitation to Beijing. Although both the Indian embassy and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology have yet to provide formal comments, the visit symbolizes a positive step forward in Sino-Indian relations.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry refrained from commenting in detail. However, they echoed a general call for collaborative efforts in AI advancement to yield shared benefits. Apart from government officials, Chinese businesses are also expected to participate in the summit, marking a significant engagement after years of tense ties between the two neighbors.
