Amazon MGM Studios Drops Final Trailer for 'Project Hail Mary' Starring Ryan Gosling

While most Americans are engrossed in today's Super Bowl or the Winter Olympics, non-sports fans have something exciting to anticipate: Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled a final trailer for its upcoming space epic, Project Hail Mary. This film is adapted from Andy Weir's (author of The Martian) bestselling 2021 novel about an amnesiac biologist-turned-schoolteacher on a cosmic journey.

Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to Weir’s novel even before its release, and they enlisted Drew Goddard to craft the screenplay. Known for his work on the screenplay for The Martian, Goddard is a fitting choice. Directing duties are handled by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who are known for their work on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The LEGO Movie. Ryan Gosling stars in the lead role. According to the official premise:

“Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) awakens on a spacecraft far from Earth, unable to remember who he is or how he arrived there. As his memories slowly return, he realizes his mission is to solve the mystery of a strange substance threatening the sun’s survival. Using his scientific prowess and innovative thinking, he races to save Earth from extinction, and finds that an unexpected friendship might mean he doesn’t have to face the challenge alone.”

The film also features Sandra Huller as the head of the Hail Mary project and Ryland’s superior, Milana Vayntrub as project astronaut Olesya Ilyukhina, Ken Leung as project astronaut Yao Li-Jie, Liz Kingsman as Shapiro, Orion Lee as Xi, and James Ortiz portraying a new life form that Ryland names Rocky.
